Course Description

This four week course discusses how external factors define women's identity and how women can learn to define themselves. The first two classes explore the historical context that has created how we think about women today. In classes three and four students assess the legitimacy of these influences and develop their own definitions of what it means to be a woman.

Course Outcomes

Successful completion of this course will enable the participant to:

  • Understand how external factors influence identity
  • Assess whether an external factor is a legitimate influence
  • Examine their own concepts of women and identity
  • Arrive at their own conclusion of what it means and what it can mean to be a woman in today's society
